Meet the Team
Terry Goetze, Winemaker, 1850 Wine Cellars
Terry Goetze grew up in Napa and joined the U.S. Marine Corps as a military police officer after graduating high school. After a 4-year tour he returned to Napa and began his career in the wine industry. In 2001 he began a 9-year stint at Rombauer Vineyards under the tutelage of Gregory Graham. While there, he had the opportunity to work with a number of ultra-premium winemakers. After Rombauer, Terry continued to build his resume, working in multiple wine regions on a variety of large scale and premium wines. Terry is a patient and focused winemaker whose expertise is helping us raise awareness of the high-quality wines that can be produced in El Dorado.
Carolyn Hoffman, 1850 Tasting Room & Wine Club Manager
With both hospitality and winery experience, which compliments her degree from the renowned Le Cordon Bleu California Culinary Academy in San Francisco, Carolyn brings a unique experience to visitors in our Tasting Room. Having grown up in Calaveras County, Carolyn brings a breadth of knowledge of the Sierra Foothill region and of Sutter Creek where the 1850 Wine Cellars Tasting Room resides. In addition to her duties as Tasting Room Manager, Carolyn runs the Wine Club and plans events.
Krista Rojas, 1850 Assistant Tasting Room Manager
Born and raised in Fremont, California, Krista has found her way into the beautiful vineyards of the foothills. Even though she is new to the wine industry, she is no stranger to the hospitality business, having worked in retail for most of her career. Her passions, other than wine, are film editing and trivia. She brings that passion to work with her by hosting regular trivia nights in the tasting room. She currently resides in Sutter Creek and has a two-year-old son name Eddie.
Guy Franzi, 1850 Tasting Room Ambassador
Guy (pronounced ghee) grew up in the rural coastal communities of Marin County California, a self-proclaimed cowboy, he learned meat cutting at an early age, becoming a journeymen butcher at the age of 16. The grocery business provided him the ability to go to school and with this knowledge and sound grocery background, he became vice president general manager of the Bay Area’s premier food retailer, Petrini Enterprises. His two greatest passions are soccer and wine. He has been an integral part 1850’s Tasting Room since day one.
Stephanie Zimmer, 1850 Tasting Room Ambassador
Born and raised in northern California, Stephanie finds herself in what she says is a "dream job", for the past 18 months. Prior, she was owner of a data processing business overseeing 60 employees, then earned a teaching credential. She still sometimes subs in the classroom in between tasting room shifts. She found herself moving to the foothills in 2016 after getting married. When she isn't pouring wine, you might find her on the tennis courts or at piano lessons fulfilling her other passions.
Katy & Sierra, Official Wine Dogs
Katy is 1850's softest teammate, while Sierra is our fluffiest! Katy is an English White Lab, who came to our team as a rescue out of Salinas, while Sierra is a fiesty Goldendoodle. Both love to run in the vineyards and greet guests in our tasting room. You'll see them from time to time when you visit us, and you can follow the adventures of Sierra on her Instagram page, Sierra the Wine Dog.
